Dowling Village will pollute Spring Brook environment

Tuesday, March 22, 2005

The proposed Dowling Village development will destroy the pristine woodlands bordering the Spring Brook area.

Acres and acres of native growth forest and understory plants which act as natural filters will be replaced by acres and acres of asphalt. Oil, antifreeze, fuel, and other potentially hazardous materials run off these vast asphalt expanses into the holding ponds feeding the drinking supply to the greater Woonsocket area.

Also the winter salting of these surfaces adds increased salinity to wells and groundwater. Once water supplies are compromised there’s no going back.

We owe it to the future generations to preserve the quality of their water supply. This is not the type of development we need for that wooded area.
